Masts
- High performance for your sail
The most
important component for a sail is the mast, both act as one unit. The
right choice of a mast exerts a determining influence on the performance
and handling characteristics of a sail.
Technical criteria such as length, stiffness, bending curve and carbon
percentage are all key parameters for the sail performance. They have an
impact on the profile and the twist characteristics of the sail. Also
the weight of the mast, depending on the carbon percentage, does impact
on the feeling.
Our mast line adapts perfectly to all Gun Sails sails, furthermore, our
masts are also compatible with all current sails from other brands.
With the ACES mast line everyone can find the right mast to suit their
personal performance requirements.
From the Advantage to the Select, all Gun Sails masts are produced in
high specification Prepreg Carbon Technology, whereas the carbon quality
and percentages mark the separation between the different models.
The individual material layers with precisely measured resin percentage
are bonded in constant temperatures under high pressure in the well
proven autoclave procedure.
This process in combination with the high-quality materials guarantees
the best results in mast response, durability and an optimum of weight.
Additional reinforcements in the boom area and stressed zones extend the
longevity even in extreme conditions.
New
surface finish
Our masts are now equipped, from the Cross
Line on, with an exclusive and distinctive surface finishing. The high
percentage of reflective particles reduce the aging process of the resin
and protects the mast from thermal exposure.
The impact strength and breaking resistance are even more increased due
to this procedure.
Universal
top fitting
All Gun Sails masts are equipped with a universal top fitting.
In this way, all of our masts can be used in sails of other brands which
use a male pin system instead of a female top cap.

2
years warranty
Besides the permanent manufacturing quality controls that we put in
place, we also have the benefit of our Tarifa based R&D team who is
constantly testing the performance and durability in the most demanding
conditions.
No matter which model you choose, you will get a top end Gun Sails
product with a 24 month warranty.

Why
RDM masts ?
RDM masts carry several advantages:
-
Superb impact
resistance due to higher wall thickness from the reduced mast diameter
-
The mast sleeve
has a bit more “volume” and gives a kind of additional profile that
increases the lower end range of use
-
Better handling
for waterstarts or in manoeuvres where you grab the mast, also the
sail rigging is easier.
-
You can learn from
the “mast recommendations” for each Gun Sails sail if you can use
beside a SDM as well a RDM. The wave sails Steel and Transwave plus
the crossover sails Torro and Nexus can be used without any question
with a RDM, whereas for our flatwater sails a RDM is not suitable. An
exception is the Mega X line in sizes 4,7 and 5,2 , these sizes have
been designed to use a RDM and they are already equipped with relevant
cambers.
All Gun Sails RDM masts are delivered with a fitting mast adapter so
that you can use all styles of boom without any problem.

RDM
vs SDM
RDM is a Reduced Diameter Mast, also called Skinny mast, and indicates
masts which have a reduced diameter (33 mm inner diameter of the base)
and a nearly uniform profile from base to top.
SDM means Standard Diameter Mast and indicates masts with a “regular”
diameter (48,5 mm inner diameter of the base) and a conical shape
running from base to top. |
