Some certainly may ask, can you possibly go wrong
with a sail at this price, anyway??
The Gun Sails Flash really has to offer a lot,
indeed! Among the group of camber-less sails it provides a well balanced mixture
of power in a wide range of wind conditions on the one hand – and excellent
manoeuvre-handling on the other hand.
Although it does not really keep pace with the
Gaastra Matrix, it still rotates very quickly and feels very light. The easy
trim concept makes it simple even for less experienced surfers to correctly
adjust the rig. Only one adjustment for the luff is sufficient, power (loose) or
control (tighter) is set by outhaul only.
With the recommended luff tension the rig felt
quite tight and direct, we varied the trim from neutral to two or three cm
clew/outhaul.
When pulled completely flat, the Flash becomes
more and more nervous, only in a more centered trim it provides the very neutral
handling, which to us was worth the 10 points in the category (driving-)
stability.
Result:
Very handy, as the largest sail among its group comparatively strong planing
results and further more easy to sail. A reasonably priced offer for
freeride-beginners, but also for experienced surfers as freeride manoeuvre sail.

Kann man bei diesem Preis überhaupt was falsch machen, wird sich mancher
fragen.
Doch beim Gun Sails Flash bekommt man sogar richtig viel geboten. In der Gruppe
der camberlosen Segel bietet es eine gelungene Mischung aus Leistung- in einem
breiten Windbereich -und sehr gutem Manöverhandling. Es kommt zwar nicht ganz an
den Klassenprimus Gaastra Matrix heran, rotiert aber sehr schnell und wirkt
äußerst leicht.
Das einfache Trimmkonzept erleichtert auch weniger erfahrenen Surfern, das Rigg
richtig einzustellen: Ein Einstellung für das Vorliek soll genügen, Power (lockerer)
oder Kontrolle (straffer) stellt man ausschließlich über die Trimmschot ein. Bei
der empfohlenen Vorliekspannung wirkte das Rigg recht straff und direkt,
zwischen neutral und zwei bis drei Zentimetern Schothornspannung haben wir den
Trimm variiert. Ganz flach gezogen wird das Flash zunehmend nervöser, nur im
bauchigen trimm erreicht es das sehr neutrale Fahrhandling, für das wir die „zehn“
in der Wertung Fahrstabilität vergeben.
Fazit: Sehr handlich, als größtes Segel der Gruppe auch vergleichsweise
gleitstark und obendrein einfach zu fahren. Ein preiswertes Einstiegsangebot in
die Freeridewelt, aber auch für gute Surfer als Freeride-Manöversegel geeignet.
