4.7 Wave MC at £230
“A longer boom for more
power on the backhand“ – this is how Jochen Krauth, Gun Sails designer describes
the difference to the “Hammer”.
Where the Hammer is already a real quick-starter, the extra boost in
acceleration of the MC is already almost a dash too much in larger waves and can
become a bit annoying in diagonal offshore wind. Also in high-wind-trim, the
boost cut-off only works partially and even in “off”-mode, it stays noticeable.
Pulled completely flat, the sail remains controllable and neutral for quite a
long time on the other hand.
This does not work with all profiles at all and is appreciated for speed trips
on flat water as well as by Wave-beginners. As different as they may be, the
common characteristics and the likeness of the features is undeniable. New
batten tension adjusters provide better protection for the strap, the - Gaastra
invented -elastic bands for the fixing of the rolled up sail are assembled on
both sides, the sail's foil is – as with all Gun sails – above-average thick and
strong.
The boom can be assembled very comfortably into the wide gap at the mast. The
mesh-material constrains the view a bit to the lee side.
Result:
Definately more designed for Onshore and smaller waves compared to the Hammer.
Waveriding:
7/10 On-Off on the Wave
9/10 Manoeuvre handling
Freemove:
9/10 Planning abilities
9/10 Controllability in strong gusts
9/10 Stability
You could buy another sail and spend an extra £140, but why ??
