Test Target 5.7 2004 Test report of magazine “Planchemag”, March/April 2004:

ENGLISH TRANSLATION:
Great All-round sail

Design:

The follow-up model of the Groove is an excellent all-round sail, designed with 50% x-ply and 50% conventional monofilm. With a significantly deeper profile beneath the boom area, compared to the competitors, it is very well reinforced with Kevlar X-ply at the leech and X-ply at the boom area.

Opinion of the test team:
Not one of the lightest in its category, the Target comes with a positive profile. With its power centred, it plans early and offers a good acceleration from the very first. Due to this strong profile, it prefers being sailed with power, which brings a higher performance level. Being well-balanced, it guarantees a remarkable stability and the board is kept quite flat on the water. It displays a direct feeling and immediately reacts to any command coming from your arms. The sail remains very neutral in strong winds; therefore it can be sailed very well into the upper wind ranges. As the performance level is very high, the handling doesn’t have to be cut back. The sail shows an excellent batten rotation and a wide freedom of movement. You don’t have to be afraid of big waves while wave-riding. It is really very comfortable and it is a sail that allows various clew adjustments to get a more flat or deeper profile.

Conclusion:
The Target is a very great all-round sail in this group, it is very vibrant, very stable for sailing with ultimate speed, and super neutral with perfect handling for all freestyle and wave manoeuvres.

PLUS: Range of use, All-round abilities, stability, neutrality, agility,
MINUS: A little bit heavy.

Scores:

Planing: 8/10
Control in upper wind range: 8/10
Handling: 8/10
Centre of effort stability: 9/10
Lightness: 7/10
Average speed: 8/10
Maximum speed: 9/10

Conclusion

ENGLISH TRANSLATION:
In 2004 Gun Sails introduces the Target as one of its big changes, which is meant to replace the Groove from now on. Being a true freemove sails, it maintains the characteristics of an absolute all-rounder. With a light-weight top out of Monofilm, reinforced over the boom, the Target possesses an X-Ply portion of nearly 50 %. The concave leech shape resembles the Hammer and Wave MC. The luff is slightly more bent compared to the Wave MC. It is possible to make use of a 4.30 m or a 4.60 m mast. Heavier surfers thus get a stiffer rig.

Driving performance:
Being lighter compared to its two colleagues with a well balanced boom length, the Target provides outstanding all-round attributes. With a favourable top end speed, many reinforcements and a good handling, all one has to choose between is : wave or freestyle ? Perfectly balanced, with a good compromise between power and agility, the Target is to ride almost effortlessly. Using a 4.30 m mast, the Target can be moved through each manoeuvre softly and conveniently. From freestyle to wave-riding one can profit from the Targets good performance features, no matter which style you may prefer.
The Target covers a very wide wind range due to its huge potential in lower wind conditions.

Result:
Being perhaps the most versatile sail of the Gun Sails family, the Target indeed has many charms to offer. Excellently manufactured, light and soft to drive - yet vigorous, the Target offers a wide range of use and a maximum in performance. A really great free- wave sail !
